Katia Dia
Katia is a watercolour, oil, pastel, and mixed media artist based in Sevenoaks, Kent. Born in the USSR, she attended an art high school and later took part in numerous master classes, workshops, and both online and offline courses taught by artists from around the world.
Since the opening up of the Soviet Union, Katia has enjoyed travelling and discovering new places across Europe, South America, and Asia. Sketching has always been her passion and a way to preserve memories from the places she has visited.
Katia is particularly drawn to watercolour for its fluidity and ability to create soft, atmospheric landscapes. At the same time, she enjoys exploring the unique qualities of other mediums and her practice also includes mixed media, oils and pastels, which allow her to express different moods and textures in her work.
Katia prefers painting directly from nature and often goes out for plein air sessions, finding her greatest inspiration in the changing seasons, light and colour. She loves working with a limited palette, embracing the challenge of capturing atmosphere and emotion with just a few carefully chosen colours.
