Kate Cochrane

Kate is a colourist with her work featuring elements of the landscape: trees, castle ruins, and seascapes. The emphasis is on colour, light and composition using layers of paint and glazing plus a variety of media. The result is a rich tapestry of hue and texture. Her enjoyment is in the process of painting, aiming for the viewer to sense an underlying passion, joy and vitality.

Kate works in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, gouache, oil pastel and soft pastel. Recently she has been having some fun using mixed media, sometimes using collage as well.

Kate gained a Diploma in Graphic Design at Canterbury College of Art followed by courses in Fine Art and colour work. She’s exhibited paintings since 1980, designed home accessories, and recently been tutoring, leading art demonstrations and running workshops.
