Greta Vilidaite
Greta Vilidaite is an oil painter based in Sheffield, creating impressionistic landscape, animal and still life paintings. She paints both from photographs and en plein air using the alla prima (“all in one go”) method to capture the immediacy of the moment and respond instinctively to light, form and atmosphere. Her work is deeply informed by observing the visual world and how light shapes what and how we see. She aims not to replicate a scene, but to convey a sense of place and the emotional tone it evokes through bold and varied brushwork and a focus on light.
Greta became a full-time artist after leaving a career in Neuroscience research, which informs her methodical and logical decision making when painting and allows her to better explain her thought process when teaching and demonstrating. Having been primarily self-taught, she has a deep understanding of how to best learn the skills needed to create beautiful and impactful paintings.
Greta regularly exhibits in local and national art exhibitions, including the annual exhibitions of the Society of Women Artists, Chelsea Art Society, Royal Cambrian Academy and others. She was awarded the Arts Council DYCP grant in 2022 for a project painting the English countryside and farm life, and has won several awards for both her studio and plein air work.
Greta is very passionate about spreading the joy of painting, running monthly workshops in and around Derbyshire, demonstrating her process to art organisations and regularly contributing to The Artist and Leisure Painter magazine.
