Nigel was born in Middlesbrough in 1964 and studied Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art (1985-88) before completing an MFA at the University of Newcastle (1988-90). He initially worked as a full time artist, undertaking a number of Artist in Residence posts as well as exhibiting in both solo and group shows across the country. In 1995 he trained to become a teacher and was Head of Art at Churchill Academy in North Somerset for over 20 years. Recently retired from full time teaching Nigel is currently teaching art workshops alongside the development of his own work.  Nigel’s own painting is based upon a response to his experience of landscape, developing the theme of environment through a range of materials and processes. Working plein-air on a smaller scale, these works are then developed on a larger scale in the studio. He also has a passion for sport, making work based on football, tennis and more recently the Tour de France.
