Heather Burton
Much of Heather’s work is inspired by the dramatic coastlines and countryside of Scotland, Yorkshire and northern England. Although Heather enjoys working with all mediums, she is more likely to be known for her palette knife work, applying many layers of acrylics with a variety of knives to capture the country’s ever-changing moods and atmosphere.
‘I really enjoy the freedom and exhilaration of working with knives and I’m always discovering new techniques and finishes,’ she says. ‘I mainly use acrylics so I can layer and manipulate them to create depth and texture to the work.’
Heather often finds inspiration for her paintings from the back of a motor bike or during travels in a small campervan, taking the less travelled roads in all conditions to study the impact the weather has on the moods and atmosphere of our extraordinary landscapes, which inspires much of her work. As well as landscapes Heather also loves painting seascapes, figurative pieces and still life and is passionate about encouraging artists to explore new techniques and develop a looser, more intuitive style of painting.
Heather is self-taught and embraced a new life as a professional artist after four decades in the media industry. Her work can be found in private collections in the UK and abroad, as well as through exhibitions and selected galleries across the north.
