Susan Colyer
Sue is a watercolour artist based near Portsmouth. She is self-taught and has a ‘can-do’ approach with watercolour which includes taking risks. Sue’s work is based on memories and emotions and is designed to allow the viewer a place to pause, breathe and reset. Sue builds her landscapes with soft, gentle washes, pulling a composition out from what appears, and then heightens it with further washes and techniques to create texture, atmosphere and an expressive piece. Her landscapes are not exact representations of the places she knows and loves, but an expression of her feelings and memories of those places.
Sue works on two papers, traditional watercolour and YUPO and exploits both to create her contemporary paintings. She exhibits nationally and her work has found homes both nationally and internationally.
