Judit Matthews was born and brought up in Hungary, moving to England for a gap year in 1994 and has lived here ever since. She works in a detailed, illustrative style, getting inspiration from paper cutting artists and Hungarian folk art. She likes to simplify shapes and not pay too much attention to scale or the real colour. Judit also works with gelli prints, either as works of art in themselves or utilising them in her collage work. The best time of year for gelli print demonstrations is Spring through to Autumn.

Judit has taken part in several group exhibitions and had very successful solo shows. In 2000 she took part in Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge and her painting was displayed in The Mall Galleries. She has also taken part in the Hampstead Heath Affordable Art Fair and her work has appeared in The Leisure Painter and The Artist magazines. Judit won the Surrey Life magazine’s Landscape Painter of the Year in 2017 and has had work accepted into the annual exhibition of the Society of Women Artists and the Society of Graphic Fine Art. She has also illustrated 3 children’s books.
