Rebecca de Mendonca

Rebecca was born near Birmingham into a creative family. Her mother was an artist and teacher, her father an architect, and her brother an accomplished painter.  After a foundation course in Art and Design at Wolverhampton University, she specialized in Theatre Design for her BA Hons at Wimbledon School of Art. This is where her love of the human form and the theatre really developed. Her career has been colourful and varied to say the least. Rebecca has worked with some highly creative people, on some fascinating projects, including sculpting the ceiling in Harrods food hall, producing work for the celebrated Warwick Castle Museum and Madame Tussauds and working as design assistant to Kevin McCloud.
Rebecca worked on several West End shows including Aspects of Love and Phantom of the Opera, specialising in paint finishes.
Rebecca is fascinated by the energy and emotion of people, whether a performer on stage or a chid playing on a sunny windswept beach. She is constantly trying to capture that moment in time. She has had work exhibited at ISTD2, Covent Garden and the Embassies of the Baltic States in London
Working with dancers in rehearsal and class at Laine Theatre Arts, Epsom, gave her work greater strength and energy, and in 2006 Rebecca was invited to study and paint English National Ballet.
Now living near Exeter, she is inspired to produce fresh new work including commissions and portraiture. Her successful pastel courses have led to a series of articles for Leisure Painter Magazine.
