PAINT IN CORNWALL

With Melanie Cambridge

8th to 11th September 2008
(maximum 6 students)

For 2008 I am delighted to be returning to this wonderful venue near Fowey, Cornwall. Originally a grain store but now restored to provide workshop space on the ground floor with artists studios above. The full-height shuttered windows open directly over the water giving wonderful views along the wooded estuary. This four-day course will include outdoor sketching and painting as well as techniques for painting quickly, getting down the essentials rather than too much detail. Tuition will be focused on oils and acrylics rather than watercolour and will be a mixture of demonstrations, structured lessons in the studio, painting on site, plus some time for free painting, on Thursday to enable me to offer individual critique sessions during Thursday afternoon.

Groups are limited to a maximum of six students, so you will be sure of plenty of personal tuition. The course is aimed towards those with some painting experience and will have a strong emphasis on helping each person develop their own abilities as far as possible as well as learning a few new techniques along the way.

Cost is £160 per person.

What is included:

  • handouts & studies
  • texture paste & glazing mediums (acrylics)
  • alkyd medium (oils)

How to find the Red Store

By Rail:

The nearest rail station is Lostwithiel. A taxi from here would take around 15 minutes. Alternatively the nearest mainline station is Bodmin Parkway with a taxi transfer of around 40 minutes.

By Road:

Take the A38 from Plymouth, through Liskard before forking on the A390 to Lostwithiel. Lerryn is signed from the outskirts of Lostwithiel (turning to the left) on minor roads for approx 2.5 miles.

Where to Stay:

Lerryn is a small village but still offers plenty of attractive accommodation. There is additional accommodation in Lostwithiel. Please ask if you would like a copy of local B&Bs.
