Paul is a self-taught artist and has painted most of his life. His subjects range from fairgrounds to railway nostalgia and landscapes to his latest passion "The Greek Islands". Paul paints in most mediums and his demonstrations include acrylic, pen and wash and watercolour pencils. Paul is a very experienced and enthusiastic demonstrator and his natural and relaxed skill with an audience means he receives many offers for return visits nationwide.
Capture the Light - Fairgrounds
A colourful and nostalgic trip into our fairground past. Paul has become well known for this unique subject and has developed a real skill re-creating the colour and atmosphere of the British fairground scene. Now you can have the opportunity to experience Paul's demonstration using acrylic paint and his specialised techniques capturing the luminance of a fairground at night. The demonstration also contains a short talk on our fairground history using some of his original paintings.
Railway Nostalgia
Pauls fascination with railways began in the 1950s when as a small boy, he spent many happy hours helping in his fathers signal box at Boston in Lincolnshire. This inspired him to train as a signal engineer and his career of almost 40 years. His demonstration records a personal history in his railway paintings. Using watercolour or pen and wash, he portrays the different facets of his workday observations - not just railway engines but the flora and fauna of the embankments, the landscapes and, of course, the odd signal box. Paul will regale you with humorous tales of the old railwaymen and the pranks of a certain young apprentice. His infectious enthusiasm for the subject will immerse you in a bygone era of railway nostalgia.
Winter trees in the landscape
Trees have a fascination all of their own, being the predominant feature in most winter landscapes. Using acrylics or watercolour pencils, Paul's easy to follow demonstration is both informative and inspiring. His Winter Tree workshop is in great demand, and being subject-led rather than media-based, everyone using their own favourite media can enjoy it.
A Taste of the Greek Islands
Following his painting holidays in Samos, Paul has developed a demonstration to introduce Art Society members to this lesser known verdant Greek island. Having stayed in the historic Pythagorian, Paul was so inspired by the picturesque circular harbour with colourful fishing boats and a backdrop of Turkish mountains he wishes to share this artists' delight with painting groups throughout the country. Paul's demonstration uses either watercolour pencils or pen and wash.
Fenland Sunsets
Living in the south Lincolnshire fens,Paul has developed a new inspiring demonstration featuring the glorious sunsets which form part of the local landscape. Due to the increased interest and popularity of acrylic paint, Paul will show you how to get the very best from this versatile and colourful medium. Blending, glazing , dry brush techniques, use of the "Stay Wet Pallett" and much more, are all part of Paul's informative demonstration.
