Acrylics, Oils, Mixed
Sea, Landscapes, Still Life, Portraits, Semi-abstract Nudes

I am a professional painter working mainly in oils and acrylics. I have regular solo exhibitions and exhibit with the Royal Society of Marine Artists in the Mall Galleries.

I was born in Bermuda and have always had a great love for the sea. I feel the energy and movement of the sea and air are key and as painters we should aim to keep that freshness. I demonstrate how to create a colour ground, mix a cohesive palette, apply paint with palette knife, rag, brushes and toothbrushes. I can demonstrate using oils or open acrylics. Light on water and the way is sparkles adds much life to a sea painting. Using toothbrushes, masking and splattering we achieve that dancing light.

Landscapes and still-lives are subjects I am happy to demo on as indeed semi-abstracted nudes. I have run many workshops in the past and really enjoy encouraging and stimulating other peoples’ artistic interests and enthusiasm.

I have undertaken artist in residencies in Bermuda, Tuscany and at the Hall in Bradford on Avon and would be happy to give an illustrated talk about artist in residencies and the work I produced through them.

Some feedback January 2020 'Many thanks Melissa, you were engaging, funny, knowledgeable and a great tutor.’ 'What a great day everyone had yesterday, everyone was so fully immersed, a good sign of involvement….. I think what you bring is a great sensitivity to colour and an in-depth understanding of light. Personally, I so enjoyed just mixing the colours and found that when you were mixing them in front of us, it was so relaxing and meditative!! GREAT DAY, thanks so much.’

Based in Wiltshire I am happy to travel to most areas with expenses.
