Flowers, Skies, Trees, Wild Seas, Animals, Snow Scenes, Starting With Abstraction

Fiona began painting in watercolours with the Midland Bank Art Club under the patient and comprehensive tuition of traditional watercolourist Keith Burtonshaw, now sadly deceased. She took redundancy in 2000 to concentrate on her family and develop her obsession with watercolours.

She started the 'Willow Watercolours ' group at the beginning of 2001 based at her home in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, and soon began teaching around the area. She now tutors seven groups each week from beginners, through to more experienced and adventurous watercolourists.

For 2009/10 Fiona is busy developing an exciting new venture for the more daring at Ace Arts in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire 'Wicked Watercolours, the devil of a medium'to explore 'things you really shouldn't do ' with watercolours and mixed media.

She is working with a hand-made brush maker to develop a range of perfect yet affordable brushes for watercolourists and brings both brushes and other tried and tested materials with her - Winsor and Newton Artists Water Colours, for example.

Fiona also presents a series of regular monthly Saturday Watercolour Workshops helping develop 'Confidence in Watercolours' through a range of subjects, from Skies, Trees, Wild Seas, Animals, Flowers, Snow-scenes, Starting with Abstraction, Mixed Media Adventures etc etc at Ace Arts, Artscape in Harpenden and the Arts Centre in Ware, Herts

As an active Art Society member herself, she also really enjoys visiting other clubs and societies to present either demonstrations or workshops for evenings, days or weekends. She also tutors private groups and clients by arrangement.

Fiona can adapt her teaching style as required from a traditional approach using a limited palette to much more contemporary work using bright and colourful primary pigments and a loose and splashy, free style.
