D Y Hide trotted proudly out into the world with a degree in Graphic Design only to discover that there is no route map for how to make money doing what you love. So after a few years of working on commercials, painting very large murals for very wealthy men and creating album covers for unknown bands, she thought it might be wise to train as a teacher.

Teaching filled her with joy and inspiration, and sapped her of the time and will to produce anything of her own until she bumbled into a wildlife art exhibition one August and wondered what she’d been doing for the last ten years. It was the turning point. She went home and drew her rabbit.

Since then, she has set about re-establishing herself as a practising artist in a fiercely competitive world. Then, a change in direction in 2018, from animal artist to portrait artist with a unique approach to her subject, set her on the international stage.

Now a published artist, D Y Hide exhibits nationally and internationally, regularly adding to her collection of awards. She works in a range of media, but her favourite - for the moment - is coloured pencil. She holds Silver Status with the UK Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS), is a Master Member of Coloured Pencil Community of Australasia (CPCAU), and is also a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA). She has been a full member of the Society of Feline Artists (S.O.F.A.) since 2016. The rest, as we artists like to say, is still a work in progress…

D Y Hide offers funny and informative workshops and demonstrations on a variety of subjects, from animal art to portraiture, from weather and the natural world to the built environment. She encourages her audience to ask questions, keen that they leave knowing a great deal more than when they came in. As a trained educator, she is comfortable working in a variety of media including pencil, coloured pencil, pastel, acrylic and multi-media... and talking at the same time!
